If you like being hung-up on by a young woman named Alexis in Melbourne while trying to get back home from vacation late at night, this is the place for you. We called Melbourne location 3-4 days prior asking if we could return our car at the Sarasota location, so we could change our flight home since our flight there was delayed/canceled. Nice man who answered the phone said sure, you can return it there no problem, it's taken care of. Awesome, so I got our flight switched to Sarasota and it was done.
edit: as frustrating as my experience with her was, my experience with a woman named Carol (not sure of her name, was working at 5-6AM at Sarasota airport on 7/22/17) was just as strong on the positive side. She was extremely friendly and helpful even at this early hour in the morning, and helped resolve some things the associate in Melbourne thought was not worth her time.
If there is a 0 star, I will give them, I reached airport at 8:27pm, they are closed, and they never let me know
A few days later, we had noticed a scratch and missing paint on the front of the car, so we called to report this to Thrifty. After discussing what we had to do with that, I asked again if we were still set to return the car to the new location in Sarasota. The girl said "no, you cannot do that." - and hung up. What? So I called back and asked again - "no, you cannot do that." - hung up again. What is going on exactly? Pulled out my girlfriend's phone to record the next call, but when I called I received a busy signal - she took the phone off the hook. Really? Waited a few minutes and called again - sounded like the phone was picked up and immediately set back down and hung up.
Theres more to this story, but I'll save that for a Thrifty supervisor who can hopefully explain to me why they hired such a rude, unprofessional young woman. Thank you Alexis for making the last night of our vacation as stressful and confusing as possible.
I would avoid this branch at all costs. Like others, I arrived at the counter to discover that they have a mileage limitation and do not allow you to drive the car outside of Florida. I had to cancel the reservation and go to another company, which cost an extra $150 because I had no reservation there. I travel extensively and these kinds of limitation are simply not used anywhere else. There were other indications that this was a shady outfit. Save yourself a lot of grief and book elsewhere.
Car was dirty. Agent at desk was not helpful! I had to stop on the side of the road and zip tie this twice.(crawl under car to do this) I am not the first zip tie customer on this car.(there were other zip ties that had broken) I had one rented for Key West, next month.(Cancelling it)
I called using my girlfriend's phone - different number, same area code. Same thing, phone was either disconnected or being hung up as soon as it rang. Called using our resorts home-phone in our room, which was answered immediately with "How may I help you?".
If you're reading this, it's not too late. Please find another rental car place before you make the same mistake we did booking through a budget rental service.
Booked a car online with Thrifty, thinking that it was the best price. I was shocked, when we got to the airport, to find that they add "extra charges" onto the bill that was not explained on the website. The "gentleman" behind the counter had no personality (which I suppose is too much to ask for in a public service company). As I asked for an explanation of these extra charges and then attempted to understand what he was saying, he told me to just get away from him, that this is the way it is. Now that I am home and checking a little deeper into the situation, I have found that Thrifty is at the bottom of the list of car rental companies. I noticed that their price doesn't reflect all the taxes that should be charged. They cover up this attempt at deception by adding in the phrase, " estimated" charges. That is what was told to me when I questioned about all the extra charges. BEWARE: Thrifty's prices appear lower but when you get to the counter, they are the same price as the other car rental companies. The car they gave us was nice but was not the size that we asked for. At the end of the trip, Thrifty did charge us for only what they said would be the cost (including the extra charges). I have read other reviews that stated the company would add even more charges later if the customer complained. I guess we shall see. It has been two weeks since my rental and no mysterious charges from Thrifty.
